DETROIT (FOX 2) - The next day following an incident where a gas station attendant reportedly fired upon an unarmed patron, Detroit law enforcement closed the establishment.

What they're saying

The attendant working at a Detroit Valero location around his 20s reportedly fired his 12-gauge shotgun through the bullet-resistant glass directly at a patron.

“The clerk’s safety was never at risk. The individual acted from behind bulletproof glass,” stated Detroit Police Assistant Chief Franklin Hayes. “Such behavior is unacceptable, and we will not stand for this.”

The shotgun shell shattered the glass, sending fragments flying onto the male customer who appeared to be around 30 years old. Authorities report that although he wasn’t struck directly by the pellets from the shotgun shell, he sustained injuries due to the broken glass.

Timeline

The incident occurred on Monday evening at the Valero located at the intersection of Conant and McNichols on Detroit’s eastern part.

"This is unacceptable, and anybody who chooses to proceed with this, we will shut you down," stated Hayes.

Hayes along with his team, together with officials from Detroit City, have permanently closed the business. This place was also designated as a Green Light site; however, the association has now ended since they intend to utilize the high-quality surveillance video as proof in their case.

"Under no circumstances—whether you consider it in terms of size, structure, content, or style—do we wish for them to participate in our Green Light partnership. Therefore, besides closing this chapter, they are definitively expelled from the program. Their patronage is unwanted," stated Hayes.

The story of clerk-on-customer aggression is not unheard of.

The Assistant Chief stated that if such an incident occurred again, he would be held accountable.
