Two Killed in Fiery Car Crash Late Friday Night Near Southeastern Sioux Falls

Two individuals lost their lives after a vehicle collision on May 9 in Sioux Falls, as stated in a press release by Sioux Falls Police Department Sgt. Travis Olsen.

According to the press release, emergency services were sent to East 57th Street and South Veterans Parkway approximately at 6:30 p.m.

Investigations concluded that a 2015 Ford Taurus made a left turn onto 57th Street. It moved in front of an approaching 2018 GMC Sierra that was heading southbound on Veterans Parkway.

According to the press statement, a 78-year-old woman who was seated inside the Ford Taurus passed away at the location of the incident. A 77-year-old man driving the same vehicle was taken to a nearby medical facility but later died due to his wounds. Both individuals were residents of Lester, Iowa. Meanwhile, the lone person in the GMC Sierra—a 35-year-old individual from Harrisburg—was admitted to a local hospital with critical injuries as per the report.

At present, investigators have yet to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident, nor are they aware of whether speeding or impairment played a role.
