Trump says he’s willing to extend pause on TikTok ban again

President Trump stated in an interview broadcasted on Sunday that he would once more suspend the prohibition against banning TikTok, should the app’s parent company be involved in further negotiations. does not divest from its popular social media platform by the latest deadline.

“Let me ask you about TikTok, sir, would you extend that deadline if there’s still no deal?” NBC News’s Kristen Welker said in the “Meet the Press” sit-down.

“I would,” Trump said, responding to Welker.

The president additionally mentioned that he holds "a special place in his heart" for the app, highlighting its widespread appeal amongst younger Americans.

At the beginning of last month, the president signed an executive order excluding enforcement for 75 days of a legislation approved by Congress last year mandating that TikTok’s parent company, China-based ByteDance, must either dispose of the application or face a prohibition within the U.S.

Trump initially granted TikTok a reprieve of 75 days before implementing a ban during his second term.

In early January, Trump expressed doubt about what would motivate him “to get rid of TikTok.” By then, his personal account on the platform had received 1.4 billion total views, with 24 million views per post on average.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew similarly expressed gratitude to the president in January for his dedication to look for a solution that safeguards the accessibility of the app within the U.S.

"On behalf of every person here at TikTok as well as all our users nationwide, I wish to express my gratitude to President Trump for his dedication to collaborate with us in finding a resolution that ensures TikTok remains accessible within the U.S.," stated Chew in a January posting on the platform.
