Stephen A. Smith Unveils Jimmy Butler’s Role in a Post-Steph Curry Era
The Golden State Warriors faced an enormous setback when Stephen Curry was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
The Minnesota Timberwolves capitalized on playing against a team missing its legendary player and tied the series at 1-1 with a convincing 117-93 victory in Game 2 on Thursday evening.
When Curry was absent, no single player truly stepped up as the leader. Buddy Hield had the most shot attempts at 14 but only managed to make five of them, ending with a total of 15 points.
Regarding Jimmy Butler, he ended up with 17 points, having shot 6 out of 13, along with contributing seven rebounds and four assists.
Stephen A. Smith discloses what Jimmy Butler’s role should be.
For the Warriors to extend the series with the hope of Stephen Curry returning eventually, things must appear significantly different in Game 3.
Curry might make his comeback for Game 5, but it’s more probable he’ll play in Game 6 since the Warriors prefer not rushing him back into action.
ESPN's Stephen A. Smith didn't mince words when proposing what Butler should do without Curry in the lineup.
Smith stated, “Jimmy Butler needs to step up in a game.” He continued, “You have to win a match without Stephen Curry. That’s precisely why you brought Jimmy Butler onboard—to fulfill this role.”
When Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle, and Anthony Edwards are defending Jimmy Butler, he is only shooting at an 13 percent clip in this series. He needs to improve. His performance must elevate.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Warriors see that kind of performance from Butler, considering his history of delivering remarkable playoff displays.
The Warriors aren't asking Butler and the rest of the roster to go out and win the series, but just to hang around long enough for the best shooter to ever pick up a basketball to get back and give them a chance.
