Son Arrested for Allegedly Killing Mom on Eve of Mother's Day in Hanford
Scott Scilagyi, aged 45, is now in custody following the alleged murder of his mother, 74-year-old Donna Scilagyi, just prior to the Mother's Day holiday weekend.
The Kings County Sheriff's deputies responded to a welfare check call on Friday morning at Curtis Avenue in Hanford.
Upon their arrival, they discovered signs of illegal activity.
"In due course, her 45-year-old son, Scott Scilagyi, answered the door and permitted us to enter the house for a search of Mrs. Scilagyi. We found Mrs. Scilagyi inside during this investigation," stated Sergeant Christopher Martin from the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
Following his conversation with Scott, it became clear that they had engaged in some form of dispute, which ultimately led to Mrs. Scilagyi's demise.
Scilagyi has been arrested and faces charges related to his mother's death.
Authorities are familiar with the suspect.
In early March, he was apprehended by law enforcement following a hazardous chase at high speeds through Hanford.
Over the past few months, according to the Kings County Sheriff's Office, they have received calls regarding disputes at this residence involving the couple.
"Three active cases involve him: the initial one being for misdemeanor battery, followed by charges for felony criminal threats, and finally two counts of assault with a deadly weapon along with felony evasion," clarifies Kings County District Attorney Sarah Hacker.
Her neighbors portray Donna as being gentle, compassionate, and amiable.
She was employed at the Kings County Sheriff's Office from 1999 to 2014.
She worked as a detention deputy in the same prison where her own son was incarcerated.
The Kings County Sheriff's Office states that the main lesson from this heartbreaking event is to voice your concerns if you feel scared.
"Safeguard your loved ones; many individuals hesitate to come forward about incidents occurring within their homes due to fears of retaliation or the potential consequences," implored Sgt. Martin.
The accused will return to court on Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation is still continuing.
Those who have any details are encouraged to contact the Kings County Sheriff's Department.
