Santa Rita Fire District Rushes to Aid After Rattlesnake Encounter

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - According to the Santa Rita Fire District, they attended to an incident involving a rattlesnake bite on Sunday, May 11.

The SRFD reported that an elderly man, aged 78, was engaged in yard work when he was bitten by the serpent.

The individual was transported to a hospital in Tucson in a stable condition.

This marks our first rattlesnake bite of the season, and we aim to caution everyone to stay particularly vigilant during this period," stated SRFD spokesperson Dan Gonska. "As temperatures rise, these snakes are becoming more active.

The SRFD advised individuals to stay mindful of their environment and wear suitable footwear along with long trousers when outdoors.

Additionally, stay away from thick bushes, as they could conceal snakes.

In case someone gets bitten by a snake, they must dial 911 right away and stay calm.

"Attempt to stabilize the region and take off any tight accessories such as bracelets or rings," stated the SRFD in a press release.

The SRFD stated that they have attended over 450 requests for snake extractions since April 1st.
