NORTH AUGusta, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- During the latest North Augusta City Council meeting, residents shared their ideas for enhancing safety along Georgia Avenue as the city continues to expand.
Entrepreneurs and local residents had the opportunity to express their opinions during a public feedback meeting.
It focused on reducing traffic congestion and enhancing walkability for pedestrians.
The two primary topics discussed during the meeting revolved around implementing a traffic circle at the terminus of Georgia Avenue and Carolina Avenue.
Certain residents supported the idea, whereas others advocated for adding a traffic light due to worries about congestion and expenses.
Another topic covered involved introducing parallel parking spaces in front of stores instead of the current angled parking spots.
Certain segments of the population supported it, whereas others showed less enthusiasm.
A study conducted by the North Augusta City Council revealed that the region experiences an average of 50 accidents per year.
The aim of the input session was to collaboratively create a long-term vision and strategy for Georgia Avenue.
