Netflix Adds One of 2024's Top-Grossing Horror Movies!
Netflix I've just included one of last year’s top-performing films and undoubtedly one of the most successful horror movies from 2024. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice serves as a follow-up to the beloved 1988 movie helmed by Tim Burton, who is back at the helm for this new installment.
Launched in September of last year, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ended up grossing over $451.9 million at the box office. Among other major releases from last year, it topped the charts as the highest-grossing PG-13 film of the period.
Even though the sequel directed by Burton is produced by Warner Bros., Netflix has a licensing agreement with the studio. This allows Netflix to typically acquire Warner Bros. movies after they have been available on Max for some time. The same arrangement applied to last year’s film as well. Dune: Part Two , which is also available on Netflix now.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice features Michael Keaton in the lead role and brings back Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. Wednesday and Scream Star Jenna Ortega was added to the ensemble as the character of Lydia’s daughter, named Astrid. Additionally, Catherine O'Hara returned to portray Lydia’s mother, Delia.
In 2024, the film resumes with Lydia presenting a supernatural talk show. Following the departure of Astrid’s father, mother-daughter communication between them becomes scarce. However, a significant family crisis brings everyone back into each other's lives, leading to Astrid discovering a gateway to the Afterlife. Since Astrid doubts her mother's involvement in the paranormal world, she feels unafraid about invoking Betelgeuse, assuming he won’t materialize. Nevertheless, he appears again for Lydia.
In addition to the returning cast, several fresh faces joined the series, portrayed by Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, and Willem Dafoe.
Occasionally, follow-up movies fail to build upon what made the initial film outstanding; however, fortunately, this is not one of those instances. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice turned out to be thoroughly enjoyable and genuinely captures the offbeat charm of the 1988 film. It doesn’t come across as a shallow attempt at nostalgia for profit; instead, it’s clear that both the cast and creators aimed to produce a quality movie and a fitting sequel, which they successfully accomplished.
With the Beetlejuice The sequel has been doing exceptionally well financially, prompting Warner Bros. to be eager about starting work on a third film. Earlier this year, executives from Warner Bros., Mike De Luca and Pam Adby, made this known. Development on a third film would begin very soon.
The firm is likewise intending to develop new films in the Gremlins and Matrix universes.
