BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET Tonight in our segment Eye on Ag and Energy, North Dakota’s representatives in Congress are joining forces to advocate for improved energy reliability, affordability, and security.

In a letter addressed to House and Senate Republican leadership, Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak and Senator Kevin Cramer have urged the leaders to reconsider federal energy tax incentives. They specifically cautioned congressional representatives about the present energy tax policies, stating these distort market dynamics and undermine the stability of the electrical grid due to their disproportionate support for power generation from wind and solar sources.

The correspondence references a recent study conducted by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, indicating that out of 18 Regional Transmission Organizations, 11 are confronting a heightened likelihood of shortages regarding the sufficient availability of resources.

The statement also indicates that based on information from the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, which caters to 45 million Americans, there is a significant chance of insufficient power supply to fulfill regular demands.

Fedorchak and Cramer propose eliminating the 45Y and 48E tax incentives, arguing that these benefits exclusively support zero-emission sources.
