Maserati MSG Gains Approval for Development Car Debut at Monaco E-Prix
Maserati MSG Racing has been granted special approval to operate their developmental vehicle during this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix as part of a promotional effort. Ex-Formula 1 racer Daniil Kvyat will pilot the squad’s testing car for one "demonstration lap" each day—Saturday and Sunday—but his pace and performance will be restricted specifically for this event.
A sports update statement released by the stewards verified that they had received a petition from the team regarding the activity and approved it subject to specific terms. The notice also stated, "The competitor may utilize the Stellantis Development FE vehicle adorned with the competitor’s liveries."
It will operate using standard tires, piloted by Daniil Kvyat for up to one lap (including the in-lap and out-lap). The power will be capped at a maximum of 110 kW and the top speed will be restricted to 50 kph, following closely behind another vehicle.
Kvyat competed for DS Penske, which is part of Stellantis' other team, during the Rookie Free Practice Session at this year's Jeddah E-Prix, securing a fifth-place finish. Earlier in 2023, he also had the opportunity to test with NIO — currently competing as Cupra Kiron with Porsche support — participating in both the Berlin Rookie Test and the Rookie Free Practice Session at the Rome E-Prix.
The event takes place over a weekend that holds special importance for the Maserati team as it coincides with their home race under the leadership of the Monaco Sports Group. Additionally, this location carries significant historical weight for the Maserati brand, particularly during its formative century in Grand Prix racing.
Monaco occupies a cherished spot in our hearts, both because of its legendary circuit and due to our rich history in motor racing," stated Marla Conti, the head of Maserati Corse. "We have significant motorsports recollections from this location, including victories in 1948, 1956, and 1957, achievements that underscore our enduring legacy in competitive racing.
“Meanwhile, the Maserati MSG Racing team is excited to take on their local track, carrying the legacy of our heritage on these iconic routes. This competition isn’t just another race; it’s a tribute to our history and a launchpad for our upcoming century in motorsports.”
