Man on Probation Accused of Stealing Gun From Former Employer

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. (KCTV) — A Chillicothe man who was previously on probation for using a weapon illegally has now faced new charges after allegedly stealing a gun from his former workplace.

Circuit Court of Livingston County, Missouri documents submitted on Monday, April 28, show that Chase J. Fantazia, aged 34, from Chillicothe, has been accused of stealing a firearm from his previous workplace.

An affidavit of probable cause submitted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office It was disclosed that at approximately 3:40 p.m. on December 2, 2024, authorities were alerted about a pistol being taken from a residence located in a countryside part of Chillicothe.

Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, the injured parties recounted that they had exited the residence earlier that same day and clearly recalled noticing the firearm previously. When these individuals came back, they spotted a vehicle which they identified as belonging to Fantazia. The rescuers mentioned that this individual had been employed by them roughly several months before but was dismissed in October since there were no further tasks available for him.

The investigators mentioned that one victim stated he had contacted Fantazia, who acknowledged being at the residence to collect some chicken feed that was provided to him. However, according to his account, he wasn’t permitted onto the premises.

A witness informed law enforcement authorities that Fantazia claimed he had taken the weapon as compensation. Nevertheless, it wasn’t until Monday that he faced formal charges, which included accusations of burglary, theft of a firearm, and illegal possession of a gun.

When the theft occurred, officials mentioned that Fantazia was on probation due to a felony charge related to the illegal use of a weapon.

Should Fantazia be found guilty, state laws specify that he might face up to 24 years in prison along with a potential fine of $30,000. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Tuesday, and by Sunday, May 4, he continues to be detained on a bail set at $12,500.

A bond hearing has been set for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7. Additional details have not been provided.
