MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — In challenging windy conditions on Friday, Mackenzie Hughes from Canada carded a 2-under-par round of 69, tying him at the top with Cristobal Del Solar from Chile for the second-round lead in the Myrtle Beach Classic.

After starting with a remarkable 63, Hughes recorded four birdies and two bogeys during his later rounds at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Hughes mentioned, 'I'm in a favorable position heading into the weekend.' He added, 'Several players are still in contention. There won’t be any changes tomorrow. I’ll just continue focusing on what I do best and let things unfold from there.'

Del Solar bounced back from a bogey on the par-4 eighth hole with a final-hole birdie on the par-3 ninth. In the later round, he carded a 67, tying Hughes at 10-under for a total score of 132.

I've been dedicating time to practice, playing solid golf, and feeling increasingly at ease," Del Solar stated. "I'm pleased with my progress.

The victor in the PGA Tour competition—taking place concurrently with the notable Truist Championship event this week—earns a berth in the upcoming PGA Championship, assuming they aren’t already qualified. However, this doesn’t apply to Hughes, a two-time tournament champion who is already set to participate in next week’s game at Quail Hollow.

Nick Watney, the 44-year-old competitor who has gone without victory for 13 years, trailed by just one stroke following his score of 67. Right behind him at the same deficit were Danny Walker (67), Harry Higgs (66), Will Chandler (69), and Davis Shore (66).
