HOT SPRINGS, Va. (WFXR) — Motorcycles arrived at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, one after another. Each year, the 29th anniversary of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride across America stirs deep emotions among participants.

"We hop on our motorcycles for this very reason: to help get children to Victory Junction. That's truly what matters," states event creator Kyle Petty.

More than 180 participants journeyed from Michigan to Virginia. This trip spanned seven days as they rode across seven different states.

"We simply halted, you understand, just north of this location where we gathered quite a large group at the Sheetz. A few campers emerged, folks like them. This is exactly what it’s all about—raising money and getting kids into camps," clarified Petty.

The charity ride isn’t merely focused on covering the 1,400 miles to reach Homestead. It’s more about embracing the entire experience and valuing the significance of the trip itself.

"Victory Junction began after my eldest son, Adam, passed away due to a racing incident. The camp is affiliated with the Paul Newman SeriousFun network of camps. Our focus is on providing support for children dealing with significant health issues and ongoing conditions. In the two decades since the camp opened, more than 130,000 young people have benefited from our programs," explains Petty.

NASCAR icon Richard Petty made his way to Homestead and mentions that the backing he received was incredible.

You know, we've been around for quite some time now. Over the years, we have made many friends among the drivers and crew members who all pitch in to help at our campsite. Whether someone identifies with my views or those similar to Kyle's, everyone understands how valuable this camp is and comes out regularly to lend their support.

One of the supporters is Bill Davidson, who serves as the VP and Brand Ambassador for Harley-Davidson. Being the great-grandson of the company's founder, William Davidson, he mentions that participating in this event offers an unparalleled experience.

You know, when you're riding, you think, wow, I'm making a difference for someone. Today, I'm assisting someone; tonight, I'll help another person; and tomorrow, I will continue to aid others. That holds significance, and I feel honored to contribute to this.

Even though it has never really been about the distance traveled, it's the individuals you encounter throughout the journey that make the experience worth it.
