Peskov stated that the aim of the suggested ceasefire was to "assess Kiev's readiness to pursue a lasting, viable peace between Russia and Ukraine."

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, intensified the rhetoric by charging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with making "a typical threat coming from a global terrorist."

The former Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, similarly expressed his anger via Telegram, where he insulted Zelenskyy and warned of reprisals should Ukraine engage in any "provocation" during the military parade in Moscow scheduled for May 9.

Earlier on May 3, Zelenskyy rejected Putin’s offer of a so-called three-day ceasefire timed around Russia’s Victory Day celebrations. He said Ukraine insists on a minimum 30-day ceasefire and dismissed the Kremlin’s proposal as theatrical posturing aimed at helping Russia appear less isolated on the world stage.

However, Zelenskyy stated that such an action would have no significance without a genuine, closely observed halt to allHostilities lasting for at least thirty days.
