Jessica Vasquez Named Cook County's New 8th District Commissioner
Cook County now has a new commissioner leading its 8th District.
Following a public gathering on Sunday, members of the Democratic Committee selected Jessica Vasquez for the position.

Vasquez becomes the inaugural female representative for the 8th District, encompassing portions of the northern suburbs within Cook County. Additionally, her appointment brings about a female-majority board for the first time ever in its 194-year existence.
Commissioner Vasquez stated in a release, “I feel profoundly honored and thankful to the committee members and community supporters who have entrusted their confidence in me.” He continued, “Having been brought up here within the district has instilled in me the aspirations and challenges faced daily by the hardworking families of the 8th District. These individuals deserve nothing less than empathetic and proactive governance from their leaders. My dedication lies in achieving tangible outcomes for these families and ensuring they see my efforts as I aim to secure the nomination as the Democratic candidate come March 2026.”
When former Commissioner Anthony Joel Quezada vacated the position, Vasquez stepped in to fill the gap. selected for the Chicago City Council as the 35th Ward council member.
Quezada took over for 35th Ward Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, who took over as chief of the Chicago Park District .
Vasquez served as Ramirez-Rosa's head of staff.
