Drive to Plant Trees for Hurricane Helene's Victims
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Students from David Crockett High School have joined forces with nearby enterprises and a community-based disaster relief organization to organize a plant drive aimed at assisting individuals affected by Hurricane Helene.
The David Crockett chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) needs volunteers as well as donations of plants to help landscape recently constructed homes near the Nolichucky River.
Students will use the skills learned in FFA to help those affected.
Considering the impact of Hurricane Helene on our community, focusing on restoring the beauty of these riverside homes and those that have been reconstructed due to all the sediment, there’s not much left," explained sophomore Max Sanders. "Still, we aim to instill a small ray of hope.
Plants can be brought to the high school. They will accept all kinds of plants, though the FFA has some recommendations as well.
They aim to conduct the plant drive all the way until the end of May.
