Community outrage over the detention of a woman by ICE officers in a Worcester neighborhood intensified, leading to two arrests made by the Worcester Police.

The Worcester Police stated that they dispatched officers to Eureka Terrace just before 11:15 a.m. on Thursday following reports of approximately 25 individuals allegedly encircling a federal agent.

Informants reported to Boston 25 News that tensions escalated following the intervention of federal officials who stopped a family traveling in a BMW along with their two-month-old infant.

According to neighbors, a woman of Brazilian origin was arrested, after which her teenager daughter attempted to interfere with the federal agents' attempt to apprehend her.

You can observe in one of the videos that her foot became trapped beneath the car, and several individuals attempted to form a human chain," stated neighbor Daniela Fraga. "The situation quickly worsened and grew more severe.

A throng of neighbors, community leaders, and immigration advocates converged at the location and attempted to prevent the family from being split up.

It seems that the teenager, who is the daughter of the woman arrested by federal authorities, stands in front of the ICE vehicle holding her infant child.

The police mentioned that she ultimately gave the baby to another person following instructions from the officers who stated that she was putting the child at risk.

She proceeded to run back towards the rolling car and gave the passenger-side door a kick.

What sort of individual separates a mother from her family?" asked another neighbor. "Everybody is tired of this! It's revolting to see ICE tearing families apart all over the country.

People present at the location claimed that the ICE officers did not have a warrant and questioned why they were detaining the unnamed woman.

I was completely unaware of how I might contribute to changing or influencing anything occurring around here," stated neighbor Lee Duerden. "This issue is widespread throughout the nation, which makes it particularly troubling.

The police from Worcester took into custody the teenager, who is the daughter of the woman, on account of accusations including reckless endangerment of a child, disturbance of the peace, disorderly conduct, and resistance to arrest.

The police likewise apprehended Ashley Spring, who is a 38-year-old candidate for the Worcester School Committee and appears on the November ballot.

The police claim she shoved several officers during their attempt to apprehend the minor and splashed an unidentified liquid at them.

Spring faces charges of assault and battery against a police officer, assault and battery involving a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and interference with a law enforcement official.

A female roommate of Spring, who chose not to speak up when approached at their residence on Waconah Road on Thursday evening, also maintained silence.

A statement issued by City Manager Eric D. Batiste responded to the community unrest stemming from the contentious series of incidents on Thursday.

The sequence of incidents was undoubtedly unsettling, particularly the video showing a family being torn apart," stated Batista. "Sadly, two people were detained following multiple efforts by WPD officers to calm the volatile scene, which involved putting an infant at risk. My thoughts go out to everyone affected by today’s occurrences and the escalating tensions stemming from our current national political atmosphere.

Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty likewise commented on the event through social media.

I'm deeply troubled by the news regarding today's incidents involving ICE. Given my commitment to fostering an inclusive community, this report of a family being separated leaves me heartbroken, particularly with Mother's Day approaching," he stated. "The dread of ICE potentially ripping families apart represents the most horrific scenario for countless individuals within our municipality.

The Worcester Police Department stated that additional charges might be filed locally as they continue reviewing the videos.

The cause of the ICE detention is still not clear.
