Arrest Made After Chaotic Car Chase Ends in Crash in Stamford, Officials Report

STAMFORD — City The police apprehended two juveniles on Friday evening after a tumultuous car chase commenced close to Stillmeadow Elementary School and concluded with multiple collisions involving law enforcement vehicles, according to authorities.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the institution located on Stillwater Road due to a reported blast at the rear of the facility involving a blue Ford Crown Victoria, which also led to the release of a white powder-like material, as stated by the Stamford Police Department.

In a Facebook post, department officials stated that the Crown Victoria left the school grounds when officers reached the location, leading to pursuit of the suspect vehicle as it moved northward through the town.

"Due to the circumstances described in the report and the possible danger to community safety, law enforcement decided to pursue the vehicle because they were concerned it might present a significant hazard," authorities stated.

The police stated that the chase concluded at High Ridge Park, which is an office complex located off of High Ridge Road, after the suspect’s car crashed into several police cruisers. Both teenagers inside the vehicle—who according to law enforcement do not reside in Stamford—were apprehended. Authorities have yet to disclose the potential charges these individuals might be facing.

Authorities stated that the Stamford Police Bomb Unit concluded the dusty material originated from a fire suppression mechanism within the car that had been inadvertently triggered and did not pose any danger to the community.

"Early results suggest that the school wasn’t specifically targeted, and there isn’t any continuing threat," according to the police statement.

The police mentioned that both suspects and several officers sustained injuries in the collisions; however, they didn’t disclose the severity of these injuries or indicate if anybody required hospitalization. The authorities stated that no additional injuries were noted elsewhere.
