Alabama's Attorney General Marshall Addresses Houston Co. Law Enforcement Retirement Luncheon
Dothan, Alabama (WTVY) — Recollections were brought back to life as law enforcement officers gathered on Tuesday to commemorate, reminisce, and pay tribute.
Every April, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office organizes the Law Enforcement Retirees Luncheon, during which they provide meals for retirees hailing from multiple states.
This event typically occurs during National Police Week, an occasion that honors and remembers those who lost their lives serving their duties.
For about 100 people who stopped by for this event, it served as a haven for cherished recollections, storytelling, and camaraderie.
During this event, one of the attendees was Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. He mingled among the crowd, personally conversing with numerous participants, and also addressed them briefly to express his gratitude towards these veteran law enforcement officers for their decades of dedicated service.
Marshall emphasized the significance of recognizing the entire community, rather than solely fellow law enforcement officers, in honoring and celebrating those dedicated to the field of law enforcement.
Law enforcement officers form their own special fraternity; they recognize and comprehend each other's experiences. However, when the community unites to express appreciation — acknowledging their hard work, honoring their sacrifices, and thanking them for their service — I find this truly commendable," Marshall stated. "This demonstrates the resilience within the law enforcement sector right here in Dothan.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza highlighted the significance of honoring the decades of dedication from these retiring officers and expressed gratitude to local supporters such as Solomon Chevrolet, who have assisted in organizing this celebration for the last seven years.
