32 Injured in Missouri Shuttle Bus Accident: Officials Report
HERMANN, Mo. ( KTVI — Thirty-two individuals were injured early Saturday when a crowded trolley derailed near Hermann, Missouri, as reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The Hermann Volunteer Fire Department The report states that the bus was transporting a minimum of 41 individuals. Highway Patrol crash report indicates that a minimum of 32 individuals were injured, with their conditions varying from slight to severe. The ages of those affected spanned from 27 to 68 years old.
The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday on Highway 100, roughly southwest of Hermann, approximately 80 miles west of St. Louis.
Investigators say the bus was heading westbound when it veered onto the right side of the road. The driver then overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the road, which led to the shuttle bus striking a ditch.
A 45-year-old male driver sustained severe injuries and was transported via helicopter to the medical facility, according to officials.
The Highway Patrol reported that three of the passengers sustained severe injuries, eleven had moderate injuries, and seventeen experienced minor injuries. They all were transported to hospitals either for medical care or as a preventive measure.
The Hermann Volunteer Fire Department states that all individuals were removed from the site within 40 minutes after first responders—such as firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and a helicopter crew—arrived at the location.
