On Wednesday, Deborah Norville stated that she would be departing from CBS' Inside Edition once this season concludes.
'I've felt incredibly honored and privileged to be part of Inside [Edition] for so many years,' Norville stated during the broadcast, with excerpts shared on their Instagram page. ‘As we reach this significant marker, it’s a moment for introspection, and upon reflecting, I’ve concluded that it’s time for me to pursue new opportunities beyond Inside Edition.’
Norville mentioned that Inside Edition's producers attempted to prolong her time on the program.
'I received a wonderful proposal to remain, however, there are experiences I aspire to have and locations I wish to visit which staying here would not allow,' she went on. 'Therefore, when the season concludes, I plan to move forward.'
'I have several thrilling developments coming up, which I will discuss shortly; however, at this moment, I wish to express how privileged I feel to have led Inside Edition throughout these years,' Norville stated. 'Working alongside such an immensely gifted team and being welcomed into your homes daily is an honour that I hold in high regard.'
Inside Edition covers a range of topics, such as criminal reports, entertainment updates, and lifestyle pieces aimed at engaging a wide audience.
Norville's declaration about her exit comes after reports from December indicated that she had taken up a new role as the host of The Perfect Line.
The game show is slated to premiere this autumn.
Norville likewise posted a clip regarding her departure from Inside Edition on her private Instagram account on Wednesday.
In her caption, she mentioned that 'being in the same role for 30 years is definitely a significant achievement, and after three decades of anchoring Inside Edition, it's time to explore new horizons.'
'I've had an incredible journey and I'll depart feeling grateful for my colleagues and those I served, as well as the audience who has tuned in,' she went on to say.
Norville pointed out that she had previously made two career transitions for personal reasons. These include her shift from Chicago to join NBC News in New York, as well as her move from CBS News to Inside Edition, both of which she described as "the correct choices."
This choice is driven by family...and I am certain it’s the right one. Stay tuned for more from me…just originating from a different location," she finished.
'For three decades, Deborah's strong influence, whether in front of or beyond the camera, has been crucial to Inside Edition's achievements,' stated Charles Lachman, the executive producer of Inside Edition, following the announcement. 'Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the program, and I am eager to see how she will further develop her remarkable broadcasting heritage in this new phase of her career.'
Before Norville moved on to join Inside Edition in 1995, she had worked as both an anchorman and reporter for CBS News.
Before joining CBS, she had co-anchored the Today Show alongside Bryant Gumbel.
Norville, originally from Georgia, studied at the University of Georgia in Athens. She began her career in broadcasting at the FOX 5 station in Atlanta.
Previously, in 2019, Norville found herself as the focal point of her own narrative when she disclosed her battle with cancer. That same year, in April, she shared news about undergoing surgery for a malignant thyroid growth. Interestingly, it was an Inside Edition viewer who noticed something amiss and brought this condition to her attention. "In our society where people speak up upon noticing issues, I’m very thankful such attitudes prevail," Norville remarked back then.
