Truckee Meadows Unveils New Fire Station East of Sparks to Slash Response Times
On Monday, the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District celebrated an important landmark with a ceremonial ground-breaking for Station 35, their latest establishment. This new 13,000-square-foot fire station is built to host between four and eight firefighters at all times and will include space for three fire engines. Primarily, this station will address incidents such as car crashes along I-80 and USA Parkway, alongside dealing with wildland blazes.
At present, emergency responses in the region are managed by personnel at Hidden Valley’s Station 37, sometimes supported by firefighters from Sparks and Storey County. Creating Station 35 is intended to lessen this reliance and offer quicker assistance to motorists and locals residing in Fernley and Wadsworth.
"Ideally,we aim to transform this into a more automated assistance tool instead of relying solely on mutual aid in the future,as we are progressing with our other collaborators...Sparks and Reno," stated Truckee Meadows Interim Fire Chief Dale Way.
The building of the new station became feasible thanks to significant funding provided by Apple, which had established a nearby data center back in 2012. At the ceremony, Melissa Schild, who serves as Apple’s Senior Director of Global Real Estate, was present and articulated the corporation's dedication to improving emergency response efficiency within the area.
"Impressively committed to our ongoing investment within these communities, this new fire station represents a crucial element of the subsequent phase," stated Schild.
Acting Director Way mentioned that although there isn't a definitive schedule for wrapping up the project, he expects the station to become functional at some point over the following year.
