On Monday, Palm Springs Pride and local authorities provided an early look at a proposed Pride monument scheduled for installation later this year. This monument aims to recognize the efforts and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community and its supporters.

The Pride Monument Board of Greater Palm Springs has chosen local resident Jim Isermann to create the multicolored sculpture. The unveiling is anticipated for September. Authorities mentioned that it is presently being constructed in Houston, Texas.

It will be set up at the intersection of Alejo Road and Indian Canyon Drive.

"The aim at present is to finish this sculpture prior to the upcoming International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association event," Mayor Ron deHarte stated to City News Service on Monday.

The city is set to welcome the International Gay and Lesbians Travel Association conference in October. The upcoming year will see the 40th anniversary of Pride celebrations in Palm Springs.

As stated on the Palm Springs Pride website, "The artwork includes three well-known emblems of LGBTQ+ unity: the triangle, the lambda sign, and the rainbow."

The organizers mentioned that this monument will act as an important civil rights artwork, standing tall as a symbol of hope and motivation, serving as an enduring homage to both the LGBTQ+ community and those who support them.

“At this moment, nobody would have anticipated that the administration would focus on so many communities nationwide,” deHarte stated. “This further underscores the significant role the LGBTQ+ community has had throughout the history of Palm Springs, and that legacy cannot be erased.”
