Bakersfield PD Tackles Homelessness: Clears 14 Encampments in East Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — On Tuesday, the Bakersfield Police Department, along with collaborating agencies, removed 14 encampments located in eastern Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Code Enforcement Rapid Response Team along with Kern Mental Health supported the police department in addressing several camps located near the railway tracks between Virginia and Potomac avenues off South Williams Street.
As stated by the police department, they dismantled 14 campsites, handed out 5 citations, temporarily seized 11 dogs, and arrested 19 individuals for various offenses including trespassing, open warrants, drug charges, and weapons violations.
The regulatory measure was taken due to grievances from residents.
