Watch Lady Gaga Master the Epic ‘Abracadabra' Choreography in Rehearsal Video
The singer went back to her roots, revisiting darker themes and precise dance routines reminiscent of her earlier work. She's given fans a behind-the-scenes look at how she brought it all together. On Thursday, the pop star released a full video of herself and her team of over 40 dancers rehearsing the choreography for "Abracadabra".
Backed by the studio track, Gaga confidently masters the dance steps choreographed by Parris Goebel, beginning the performance in a black latex bodysuit and a white cape as she dances through her team of dancers, later joined by ballroom legend Honey Balenciaga.
The choreography, performance, and filming style are all used to convey the narrative.
The new rehearsal gives a closer look at Gaga's choreography, which sparked a TikTok trend where fans are learning Gaga's high-energy dance moves. (Gaga collaborated with Mastercard on a dance contest for the song.)
The video cuts together clips of Gaga's dancers doing backflips and somersaults as they surround Gaga, and later features a cane choreography. The video shows Gaga in different hairstyles as she prepares for the performance.
We even rehearsed different wigs, makeup, and wardrobe to see how everything would work and what we needed to do to make the piece as impactful and clear as possible," Gaga said on Instagram. "Working with Parris, our combined teams, and these fantastic dancers was a truly beautiful experience and we put our heart and soul into it!
Lady Gaga explained the meaning of "Abracadabra" and how she learned the choreography from Goebel, who assisted her in interpreting the concept of a battling "inner dialogue" between her good and evil sides in her dance routine.
We were a family, trying to find something genuinely authentic together. It's striking to me watching the video now, many weeks into the year because a project we made a few months ago about perseverance is being released now, when it's needed the most.
