Ukraine Ambassador responds to Tony Abbott's suggestion of Australian peacekeepers in Ukraine
Ukraine's Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko, discussed the possibility of Australian peacekeepers being sent to Ukraine.
Mr Myroshnychenko's comments come after former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott suggested Australia should send its own peacekeepers to the region, following a similar offer made by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“As you know, the Australian Defence Forces are currently providing training to Ukrainian personnel in the UK as part of the CODU program, which is a significant boost to Ukraine's defence capabilities,” he said to Sky News Australia.
“Fair dinkum, we'd be stoked to have international peacekeeping missions in the future. We haven't made a formal request to the Aussie government about it yet, though… We've had a similar question put to the Kiwi PM as well, and he's not ruling it out.”
“So it's all part of the conversation, but what's crucial is making sure the free world remains strong with its sovereignty, democracy, and human rights, the values that could've been severely undermined.”
