The best worst-selling cars in Australia
Wouldn't it make sense that well-made cars get lots of sales and poorly made cars don't do so well?
in 2024.
While not actually the poorest sellers in their categories, all of the models below deserve to do a lot better than they're currently doing.
Let’s check them out.
Punters were left wondering why several car brands got a serve in the sales stakes in Australia during '24, including Tesla, MG, Ram and Jeep.
Fair dinkum! Australia's best-seller for 2024 is out! Did the Toyota RAV4 knock off the Ford Ranger, or has the Toyota HiLux made a comeback to top the charts?
All the cars banned by Australia's regulatory changes and surprising models like the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series, Nissan Patrol, Toyota Fortuner and LDV T60 that are compliant with ADR 98/00

As a proper vintage, high-performance, go-kart-sized vehicle.
Australian icon. Let's hope this fabulous bunch of affordable performance hatches don't all fade away for good.
Honda Civic
Fair dinkum, although it's not cheap at $55,000 drive-away, we reckon the fully-equipped and partly-electrified Honda's top-notch quality, performance, handling, refinement and efficiency make it stand out from the rest of the premium pack.
The Type R flagship is commonly seen as the world's best hot-hatch vehicle.
VW Golf.
For Australians, the newly-released Civic Series II is expected to make up for the 27 per cent decline in sales experienced in 2024.
Peugeot 308
Few people put their money on a small French car leading the sales figures, but the third-gen 308's appealing style, plush interior, agile handling and enthusiastic character makes it a standout amongst European hatches. It's genuinely an impressive, comfortable drive.
Fell under the radar of only a few buyers. Such a shame, it's a ripper of a little product.
Nissan Z
The price of $75,000 is a ripper of a retro reminder of what speed and style used to be all about, capturing the spirit of both Aussie and American muscle cars from another era, in a uniquely and endlessly appealing Japanese two-seater personal coupe package. Yeah, the RZ34 series is essentially a greatest-hits compilation of the Z car design based on an evolved 350Z platform from the early 2000s, but it’s still as exhilarating and satisfying a drive as you'll find.
Only managed a fraction of their volume at roughly 320 units sold last year. We fear this may be the last run and then such cars will simply disappear forever. You've been warned.
Renault Megane E-Tech
Around the globe, media have been raving about the Mégane E-TECH's impressive mechanical design and top-notch presents, praising its refined road handling, practical driving range and overall comfort and convenience. Able and charismatic, it continues to be one of the top electric vehicles available, showcasing Renault's significant expertise in this area. Another excellent French car.
But are Aussie consumers interested? The 2024 calendar year was the first full year of sales in Australia for that car brand, yet only 266 units were sold, even after a significant price drop. During the same time, over 12,500 Tesla Model Ys were sold.

The "90-degree V6" is Nissan's well-known VQ35. This motor's one of the most robust and laid-back engines around, giving you a silky-smooth and utterly calming drive that's perfect for a family wagon.
