‘Shambolic’: Thousands hit by major outage
fixed broadband services.
The blackout has affected consumers of providers TPG, Vodafone, iiNet, Internode and Kogan's fixed internet customers.
While the issue affected users right across the country, a spokesperson for TPG said a lot of those affected were in New South Wales because most of the state's traffic goes through a data centre based in Sydney.
The data centre had a power failure late in the arvo [afternoon] on Monday.
The spokesperson said the electricity had been reconnected and services were gradually coming back to normal on Monday night.
Services are expected to get back to normal "later this evening".
TPG didn't comment on how many people were affected, but said it would be "in the thousands".
"We're sorry for any trouble this has caused," a TPG bloke said in a statement on Monday.
The telco operator acknowledged the outages at 7pm on X as customers had a whinge on social media about the service disruptions.
"No luck getting any updates from your social media channels, given your website's down? Lack of info like this speaks volumes to me. Shambolic., " will seriously think about switching [Internet service provider], one person said.
It took a fair dinkum age to get this message up which doesn't even give us the full lowdown on how bad the outage is, like the TPG website and support being down for the count. It's clear TPG didn't take on board the lessons from last year's Optus debacle.
TPG Telecom is an Australian telecommunications organisation which contains brands such as Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, AAPT, Internode, Lebara and felix.
It's the second largest telecommunication company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
