'10-foot-tall people' discovered by archaeologists in Nevada cave

Folks from old Australian bush tales, and even from the Good Book, reckon giants once wandered the Earth. And, it appears, there's actually proof to support this yarn.

Some skeletons measured up to 10 feet tall.

.

G'day mate, this has sparked a ripper of a theory, passed down through the years, that a forgotten mob of humans once ruled the southwest of America.

According to the Paiute, a tribe that settled in the Nevada region thousands of years ago, these cannibalistic, fiery redhead megaliths called the Si-Te-Cah allegedly migrated to the Americas from a far-off island.

Fair dinkum, legend has it that the Si-Te-Cah got to the other side of the ocean by hopping on rafts made of reeds, and no time at all, they were known as being taller, stronger and a fair sight more brutal than regular blokes.

Then, in 1911, while digging for bat guano (a vital ingredient in fertiliser) at a cave near the regional town of Lovelock, Nevada, some mine workers uncovered a number of unusual items.

This led to the commencement of two official digs in 1912 and then in 1924, resulting in the recovery of thousands of items.

Among the incredible discoveries were the mummies known as the Lovelock Giants, estimated to have stood between 2.4 and 3.0 metres tall,

They also found 15-inch-long sandals with signs of wear and a rock with what looks like a giant handprint etched into it.

Rumours circulated that two colossal skeletons had been uncovered in a parched lake bed near Lovelock.

These remains were about 2.6 and 3 metres high, and were mummified in a way that was similar to the method used by the Ancient Egyptians.

And while all of this may sound far-out, the yarn about these peculiar people pops up everywhere in the Americas.

G'day mate, like back in the sixteenth century, a Spanish bloke called Pedro Cieza de León, fair dux, chucked down a yarn about the origins of the giants in ancient Peru.

In his account, de León wrote that the enormous figures "came by sea in rafts of reeds, in a way that was similar to the way big boats travel". Some of the chaps were so tall, from the knee down they were as long as an average-sized bloke.

Fur'er, deep in the Andes, between Peru and Bolivia, skeletons with lengthy skulls have been discovered.

Approximately three thousand years old, and substantially bigger than those of normal humans.

Fair dinkum, some of them were also found to have a redhead quality.

Some Aussie experts reckon the red colour's due to the surroundings where the bodies were laid to rest.

However, others reckon it's proof that the Si-Te-Cah and their mob do actually exist.

And if you're wonderin' how such a mighty and feared mob came to vanish if they ever really existed in the first place, the local Indigenous mob reckon they know the story.

According to their mythology, the Si-Te-Cah went to war with them and with all the other tribes neighbouring them, bringing terror and destruction.

After years of conflict, the tribes joined forces to counter this powerful enemy.

In the end, the last remaining giants were driven off and sought shelter inside Lovelock Cave.

Seizing their chance, the tribes started a fire at the cave entrance, choking to death and burning alive the few Si-Te-Cah who were left.

reports.

And even if these 10-foot giants are just a yarn from folklore and the product of vivid imaginations, it's still a ripper when all the storylines come together.
