Pat Cummins and wife Becky welcome new baby
Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins and his wife Becky have welcomed a baby daughter, Edith.
“She's arrived,” Becky Cummins posted on Instagram with a photo of the newborn snuggled up by her mum. “Our gorgeous little girl, Edi … Can't put into words how chuffed and loving we are right now.”
Cummins, who took parental leave for Australia's recent Test tour of Sri Lanka, has previously stated that he aimed to promote a healthier balance between family life and work responsibilities for professional cricketers.
G'day mate, I copped a big chunk of time when me boy Albie was young last time around and I'm keen to make sure we spend a bit more time at home for that initial period this time.
“He reckons it's fair dinkum, no one's going to lift an eyebrow if someone puts family first within reason,” he said.
We're playing cricket, it's not the end of the world, so we want blokes to have long, successful careers for Australia, and you can't just ask them to put their footy life on hold to go tour the world and forget about everything else. We're pretty understanding when it comes to family.
It appears to be part of a bigger trend in cricket, with Travis Head and Mitch Marsh on parental leave for the recent series against Pakistan, and top Indian cricketer Virat Kohli flying back home during a Test series against Australia in 2020 to attend the birth of his first child.
The Cummins family shared news of their first pregnancy, including a son named Albie, on Instagram back in 2021. Becky has also shared photos of herself as her pregnancy progressed in recent times.
Cummins has been ruled out of next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan because he's dealing with an injury.
