In the finale, Galadriel made a vow to track down Sauron, with Elrond reluctantly joining her on the quest, while the Dark Lord went on the hunt for his own allies. Meanwhile, a dark cloud loomed over the dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm, the island kingdom of Númenor started to fall apart and a weak Harfoot set off to the uncharted lands of Rhûn to help her enigmatic, enormous companion.

Series three has been confirmed. The award-winning series is currently in pre-production at its new production base, Shepperton Studios, and filming will start in autumn this year. Further information will be revealed in the coming months.
