A spokesperson for JCPenney stated that while the company doesn't plan to significantly reduce its number of stores, it does anticipate closing a small number of locations by mid-year.

The company has listed the eight JCPenney stores -- each located in different states -- that will be closed. Here's the list of department stores being shut down and where they are:
At JCPenney located within The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno, California.
JCPenney located at The Shops at Northfield in Denver, Colorado.
JCPenney at Pine Ridge Mall in Pocatello, Idaho.
JCPenney at West Ridge Mall in Topeka, Kansas.
JCPenney located at the Annapolis Mall in Annapolis, Maryland.
JCPenney at Asheville Mall in Asheville, North Carolina.
JCPenney located at the Mall at Fox Run in Newington, New Hampshire.
JCPenney at Charleston Town Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
In January, JCPenney confirmed its merger with SPARC Group, which owns Aéropostale, Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Lucky Brand, and Nautica, to create a new company called Catalyst Brands. Marc Rosen, who was previously the chief executive officer of JCPenney and is now CEO of Catalyst Brands, stated that his "business combines the rich history of six distinct brands with modern energy and a new vision for success."

Retail store closures are expected to keep increasing in 2025, with a report from Coresight Research predicting a rise to around 15,000 closures. In 2024, US store closures reached a record high of 7,325, exceeding the 2020 total of nearly 10,000 closures.
