Fowler makes history as Liverpool blown off park

has made Women's Super League history by becoming the first player to notch at least two goal involvements in four consecutive league games.

Fowler was at her classy best in providing two left footed assists for Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw's first half goals in Monday's (AEDT) 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool.

The 22-year-old had earlier scored three goals and set up three other teams in matches against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

"She's still very young and plays a lot, Mary, she's really important for us," City manager Gary Taylor said.

And she can play in various positions as well, and she's a real asset to the team with her quality. When you see her in that sort of form she's been in, I reckon she's pretty tough to play against.

Taylor replaced Fowler in the second half.

"We're a bit worried about her hamstring issue cropping up again," Taylor said.

She's been playing a fair bit for her club and for her country, so we just need to make sure that's balanced properly.

And we had to pull her off, we couldn't take any risks as it got to the end.

Shaw's goal-scoring return came after she missed a game earlier this month following exposure to "racist and misogynistic" abuse on social media.

"It's really, really tough when you're affected by stuff like that," Taylor said.

She needs to know that the entire team and the entire club are supporting her with this.

Jamaican international Shaw, one of the world's top players, was targeted after the game against Arsenal, which City called "disgusting treatment."

The city didn't provide further information about the messages, but confirmed they'd been passed on to the relevant authorities.

The city team are currently fourth in the Super League, trailing behind Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
