EU deals heavy blow to Russian economy

The separation of the Baltic States from the Russian and Belarusian electricity grids marks a significant step in the region's energy autonomy.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have successfully cut ties with the Russian and Belarusian electricity grids. As a result, they've become full-fledged members of the European Union's electricity network.

The European Union provided financial backing to the Baltic countries with over 1.23 billion euros, which covered approximately 75% of the total investment costs. This funding was crucial for the construction of new energy infrastructure and to ensure the self-sufficiency of the electricity system.

After the break in relations, the three Baltic countries are no longer reliant on Russia for their energy supplies. Prior to this, their power grids were controlled by Moscow, making them susceptible to outside influence.
