This phrase is a classic saying that suggests the story being told has been around for a very long time.

You pull into your preferred fast-food restaurant and place an order.

You're only shocked by the price on the receipt when you finally check out. Suddenly, you might not feel as hungry as you did.

It's something that happens to anyone, and if you've ever eaten or drunk something while you're in a hurry, you probably know what it's like.

It's likely that you've experienced it more often over the past few years, as prices for things like groceries, gasoline, and clothing have never been higher than they are now.

Food prices are rising

It was discovered that the price of many products and services increased more than anticipated during the month of January.

According to the Consumer Price Index for January, prices increased by 0.5% overall during that month.

Most analysts predicted the monthly rate to be 0.3% and the annual rate to be 2.9%.

Here's a review of how some fundamental goods and services have evolved over the past month:

  • Food: increase 0.5%
  • Energy: increase 1.1%
  • Fuel oil: increase 6.2%
  • New vehicles: unchanged
  • Used vehicles: increase 2.2%
  • Apparel: decrease 1.4%
  • Shelter: increase 0.4%
  • Transportation services: increase 1.8%
  • Medical care commodities experienced a 1.2% increase.

The food prices at home index increased by 0.5 percent from the previous month, with four out of the six major grocery store food categories showing an increase, according to the Consumer Price Index.

The cost of eating out rose faster than the overall inflation rate.

"The cost of eating out increased by 3.4 percent over the past year. Both the cost of dining at casual restaurants and the cost of eating at full-service restaurants rose by 3.3 percent over the same period," the Consumer Price Index reported.

Dunkin' is making a change to its menu.

As a trend, the cost of eating out at a restaurant has been increasing.

Whether it's at a fast-food place like McDonald's or a high-end restaurant with a Michelin star, people are being more mindful of how they spend their money. How often we eat out and what we order when we do is a major concern for many of us these days.

Dunkin' is making a change of direction. The coffee chain, based in New England, recently announced that it will eliminate a popular fee that many customers had been complaining about, with the goal of lowering the cost of many of our orders.

Starting on March 5, Dunkin' will no longer add a fee for non-dairy milk options.

Previously, many coffee chains, such as Dunkin', charged customers anywhere from $0.50 to over $2 for non-dairy alternatives, like oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk.

The decision was "influenced by customer feedback," according to a Dunkin' spokesperson.

Other chains, such as Starbucks and Tim Hortons, have also removed the up-charges for non-dairy substitutes.
