Donald Trump takes victory lap at Daytona 500 to thunderous cheers

US President Donald Trump received thunderous applause while attending the Daytona 500.

Footage captured the crowd cheering as the president's Air Force One aircraft flew overhead the Daytona International Speedway.

When President Trump arrived in Florida, he met up with the racing participants before getting in on the action and doing a victory lap on the track.

The President's limousine was at the front of the pack of cars for two laps around the track.

While his motorcade was cruising around, the president was chatting with other drivers on the radio, offering them words of encouragement before their big race.

“G'day, this is one of your top blokes, I'm a huge fan, I reckon you're all a real top bunch of people… I just want to make sure you stay safe, you've got heaps of talented Aussies and great Aussies, have a good day, have a ripper time and I'll catch you later,” Mr Trump said.
