Sky News host Chris Kenny says the polls are "down" for Labor but their spending is "up".

The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has confirmed that his government will be pumping a total of $7 billion into finally getting the Melbourne Airport rail link up and running, as part of a big infrastructure spending push in Victoria, which also includes a boost for the state's roads, ahead of the federal election.

"Their reckless spending and attacks on Peter Dutton gave away their desperate fears about losing the election. Well, it's déjà vu all over again today," Mr Kenny said.

“First off, it's about the money being spent, and in this case, it's Melbourne, which holds a bunch of important electorates, and we're talking about $7,000 million for a rail project that's been on the table for a long time.”
