The calendar officially moved from January to February on a Saturday. However, at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, it felt like the beginning of spring a few moments before it actually was.

The Boston College Eagles, sitting 9–11 on the season, trailed Florida State 76–72 at home with 14.2 seconds left in regulation time. After the Eagles' sophomore guard Fred Payne was stopped at the rim, the Eagles' center Chad Venning grabbed the rebound and scored, bringing the deficit to 76–74.

On the next trip down the court, the Seminoles lost their cool and threw a pass that sailed right back to Boston College. Without any hesitation, Eagles junior guard Chas Kelley III launched a three-point shot from deep outside the three-point line and made it go through the hoop, putting their team ahead 77-76.

"This is quite stunning!" play-by-play announcer Jon Meterparel said on the ACC Network broadcast.

Florida State freshman guard Daquan Davis missed a layup just as the clock was about to run out, and that's when Boston College pulled off a stunning upset in front of a crowd of over 6,000 fans.

The Florida State team, which was 13-4 less than a week ago, has now lost four consecutive games in a row. With the win, Boston College effectively put an end to its six-game losing streak and improved its overall record to 10-11 and its record in conference games this season to 2-8.
