ANA to Order $14 Billion of Jets From Boeing, Airbus, Embraer
ANA Holdings plans to purchase more than $14 billion worth of jets from Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer, partly to keep up with growing travel demand to Japan.
A Japanese airline announced on Tuesday that it plans to purchase up to 77 new aircraft from three different companies in order to support its long-term growth in international markets and to accommodate changes in its domestic operations. The airline had put off updating its fleet during the pandemic.
The planes have a total price tag of approximately $14.41 billion, which is equivalent to 2.158 trillion yen, and are expected to be delivered by around 2033.
The airline stated that its fleet will expand to approximately 320 aircraft by around 2030.
ANA plans to purchase 18 Boeing 787-9s, anticipating robust travel demand between Asia and North America. For domestic flights, it will acquire up to 20 Embraer E190-E2s, which are expected to lower fuel consumption. Additionally, it will purchase up to 39 more planes to modernize its existing fleet.
Foreign visitor arrivals to Japan increased 47% in 2024, reaching a record 36.9 million, as reported by the Japan National Tourism Organization.
In March of last year, Japan Airlines announced it planned to purchase 42 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, which are expected to be delivered over the next decade. The total catalog price for the 42 jets was 1.87 trillion yen, according to the company's figures.
