A cold front is forecasted to cover most of the continental United States in the coming week, with parts of the Deep South expected to see freezing temperatures.

Another severe winter weather system is approaching the country, following in the wake of other recent winter storms that dumped heavy snow and ice nationwide.

But the latest polar vortex has been forecasted to impact significant areas of the United States, so here's what you need to know.

Here's a look at weather forecasts for parts of the US that may be hit the hardest with snow and ice due to the upcoming winter storm:

Texas

Parts of North Texas are likely to experience a chance for snow accumulations during the weekend and the beginning of the next week.

According to the National Weather Service's office in Fort Worth, areas to the north and northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area are expected to have the highest likelihood of experiencing more than 0.1 inches of snow.

DC

In the nation's capital, the impending winter storm is forecasted to drop as much as six inches of snow across the entire surrounding area.

The cold weather caused the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on Monday to be moved indoors instead of being held outside.

Massachusetts

To the north of that, on the East Coast, Massachusetts is expected to get between two and four inches of snow. In Connecticut and Rhode Island, the National Weather Service forecasts snowfall totals of between half an inch and three inches.

Next week, the northeast region may experience areas of sub-freezing wind chills, according to forecasters.

Illinois

Temperatures in Chicago are expected to plunge to as low as -25 to -15 wind chill, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasts indicate sub-freezing lows on both Sunday and Monday nights. Additionally, the highs for the area are only predicted to reach the single digits, offering no respite from the severe cold.

Lake-effect snow is also anticipated with possible snow flurries across the region.

Florida

Although Florida won't experience biting cold temperatures or several inches of snow, the polar vortex is still expected to bring abnormally low temperatures to the country's Sunshine State.

Temperatures have a chance of being cooler than usual in parts of Florida.

Indiana

The surrounding areas of Indianapolis are forecasted to receive some snowfall, with areas expected to get under an inch of snow, according to the National Weather Service office.

However, the region is bracing for significantly low temperatures, with forecasted lows in the single digits.

Georgia

Parts of the southeast can expect some snowfall over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service Office in Atlanta, regions of northwest Georgia have approximately a 50% chance of experiencing snowfall.
