Ukraine repels massive Russian drone attack: Details

On the night of January 19, the Russian military launched 61 drones from three different directions at Ukraine. The majority of them were intercepted by Ukraine's air defense systems.

"On the night of January 19, the enemy attacked with 61 strike UAVs and various decoy drones from the directions of Millerovo, Bryansk, and Oryol," the military stated.

How Air Defense responded

The aerial attack was countered by the Ukrainian Air Forces and Defense Forces, using aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire teams.

"At 9:00 am, 43 'Shahed' type and other drone strikes have been confirmed destroyed," the military reported.

Air defense operations occurred in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv areas.

Besides the drones that went missing from radar tracking, 15 decoy drones were lost, while one remains in the air, and military operations are ongoing.

Russian strikes on Ukraine

Air raid warnings sounded throughout Ukraine around 10:00 PM Kyiv time on Saturday, January 18, due to the threat of ballistic missile attacks that followed with a warning of potential drone strikes.

By Sunday, January 19 at midnight, air defenses in the Kyiv area were activated in response to drone attacks, with detonations reported within Kyiv itself. Air defense systems in the Kyiv area continued their operations into the early morning hours.
