Lead singer Bono of the band spoke about how Hendrix's music had affected him during his teenage years.

He said U2 isn't a punk band," he stated, "but there's a kind of violent energy in our music... I strongly connect to the rough side of rock and roll and Jimi Hendrix. Similarly, he was like a spiritual exorcist. He put the atmosphere of Vietnam into that amplifier and channelled an incredible amount of passion through his guitar. What he inspired on stage was truly phenomenal - he was a true rock and roll mastermind.
When the interviewer mentioned the deaths of Hendrix, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, and John Lennon, Bono replied that he had always felt very angry about losing such talented musicians, saying, "I just wonder about the records they were about to make, or the ones they might have possibly made... especially Jimi Hendrix."
