South Australia revelling in return of Emirates' international flights

South Australia's economic prospects are looking up, as the number of international direct flights out of Adelaide is on the up, but a personal plea from Premier Peter Malinauskas hasn't nailed down the return of Qantas international routes just yet.

Qantas hasn't been running international flights from Adelaide since 2013, giving other airlines the chance to fill the gap and capitalise on demand for interstate travel.

The resurgence of daily Emirates flights has led to a significant increase in South Australian exports, with almost 200 tonnes of freight now being transported to the UAE each week.

The Yoghurt Shop, a local business which got its start in Adelaide's Central Markets, has found worldwide success through exporting its products.

"There's demand for the product in Dubai, a world city, and in some of those middle-ranking cities around the world," the owner, Brandon Reynolds, said.

G'day mate, the previous set-up meant exports from Adelaide had to go through Melbourne first, adding another 36 hours to the trip.

While Emirates flights are running again, Cathay Pacific hasn't decided if it'll start flying to Adelaide again, and negotiations between Malinauskas and Qantas hit a block, so Qantas' international services staying in limbo.
