Saints Coaching Search Reportedly Down to Two Candidates
There's also one more unfinished item on the list: the New Orleans Saints.
.
According to a report from Nick Underhill of neworleans.football, the Saints have "no plans to interview anyone else," for the position currently, and are focused on two finalists: Mike Kafka, the New York Giants' offensive coordinator, and Kellen Moore, the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator. Underhill notes that Moore appears to be the frontrunner for the job.
It seems like that's probably going to be where this situation winds up. The Saints haven't made a decision, no one has come to an agreement, I don't even think an offer has been made, but it feels like there's interest on both sides and I'm thinking that's where it might ultimately go.
Moore, 36, is currently leading the Eagles' offense through their Super Bowl LIX run and could become New Orleans' head coach on February 10. After a six-year playing career, Moore transitioned to coaching with the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 as their quarterbacks coach. He held the position of offensive coordinator with the Cowboys from 2019 to 2022 before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in the same capacity. This is his first season with the Eagles.
As for Kafka—the number two candidate to be next in line—he just completed his third year as New York's offensive coordinator. The 37-year-old is also overseeing the head coaching duties of the National Team at the Senior Bowl.
Was not mentioned by Underhill.
Either way, it appears the Saints will be getting an offense-focused head coach to lead them in 2025 and (hopefully) beyond.
