Pepsi discontinues ‘permanent’ flavor, debuts a completely different one

(Pepsi is planning to introduce a new flavor later this month, marking its first permanent addition to its lineup of drinks in four years.)

That last "permanent" flavor is being phased out.

A new drink, Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream, hitting stores January 20th, combines the flavors of “sweet cherry” and “creamy vanilla,” according to the company's recent press release however it will be sold with original and "zero-sugar" options.

Pepsi's other cherry-flavored cola, which debuted in 1988, features a unique combination of vanilla and cherry flavor.

A representative for Pepsi has confirmed that Pepsi Wild Cherry is not being discontinued.

"Pepsi Wild Cherry has always been a standout in the cola flavor category, particularly among younger folks who grew up in the millennial and Gen Z generations -- we've seen 8% growth every year on this product -- so we felt we had a chance to really deliver something remarkable this year that consumers would truly love," Jenny Danzi, Pepsi's top marketer, said in a quote that came with this week's press release.

Both the regular and zero sugar versions of Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream will be sold in 12-ounce cans, and larger 20-ounce bottles will also be available for a short time after the launch, according to Pepsi.

A representative for the brand confirmed this to Nexstar. However, it was stated that this flavor is being discontinued, as Pepsi is currently prioritizing its newer products, according to a representative for Pepsi.

Pepsi Mango is being discontinued for the time being," the representative said in an emailed statement to Nexstar on Thursday. "Pepsi is focusing on its product lineup based on shifting consumer preferences and tastes, and we're looking forward to releasing our new innovation, Pepsi and Pepsi Zero Sugar Wild Cherry & Cream this month.

According to a member of Pepsi's support team, Pepsi Mango will no longer be available as of January 2025. However, they couldn't give a specific withdrawal date. Apparently, the product is still being sold in stores since it is being phased out gradually.
