Pepsi discontinues ‘permanent’ flavor, debuts a completely different one
(NEXSTAR) - Pepsi has announced plans to introduce a brand-new flavor this month, marking its first permanent addition to the company's beverage lineup in four years.
That last "permanent" flavor is being phased out.
One of the two new beverages, Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream, which will be available nationwide starting January 20th, combines the flavors of "sweet cherry" and "creamy vanilla" as stated in a press release recently issued. This drink will be offered in both its traditional form and a "zero-sugar" version.
The other cherry-flavored cola that Pepsi released in 1988 is being talked about. The company announced that its new soft drink combines vanilla flavor with the cherry flavor that people already "love about the Pepsi Wild Cherry."
A representative for Pepsi has confirmed that Pepsi Wild Cherry has not been discontinued.
"Pepsi Wild Cherry has long been a top choice among cola fans, particularly among millennials and Gen Z - we've noticed a steady 8% annual sales increase in the product - so we felt we had a great chance to create something exciting for consumers this year that they'll really enjoy," Jenny Danzi, head of marketing at Pepsi, said in a statement included with this week's press release.
Both the regular and zero-sugar versions of Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream will be available in 12-ounce cans at first. Twenty-ounce bottles will also be available temporarily after the initial release, according to Pepsi.
A spokesperson for the brand told Nexstar. However, this flavor will be discontinued as Pepsi chooses to prioritize its newer products, a spokesperson for Pepsi confirmed.
Right now, Pepsi Mango is being phased out," the representative said in an email statement to Nexstar on Thursday. "Pepsi makes decisions about which products to focus on based on shifting tastes and preferences, and we're looking forward to rolling out our new offering, Pepsi and Pepsi Zero Sugar Wild Cherry & Cream, later this month.
A member of Pepsi's support team stated that Pepsi Mango will be discontinued as of January 2025, although the exact date was not specified. The beverage can still be found on store shelves in various markets while it is being phased out, according to the representative.
On Pepsi's official website as of Friday morning.
