No Man's Sky update adds 'billions' of planets and stars

Adding to the galaxy's existing celestial bodies, the latest update includes a multitude of new stars and planets.

A game, based in Guildford.

Hello Games' founder Murray explains the update in a teaser video.

The number of new planets and solar systems may seem less impressive at first glance because the game's universe is randomly generated. However, the trailer does show how there's plenty of new content to explore.

For example, oceans can now be "kilometers deep", while Mr. Murray says the maximum size of caves and caverns is much more impressive than ever before.

You may also encounter gas giant planets that are quite large, essentially "ten times the size" of the gas giants that were in the previous version of No Man's Sky.

You don't have to look too closely to notice the improvements in World Part I, and there's also a new lighting system that enhances reflections and shadows.

“Starry night skies and wispy clouds are perfectly reflected in the calm waters of lakes and oceans,” says Mr. Murray.

But even that might take a long time to process properly.

Computers, laptops, and gaming consoles, including PC, Mac, Switch, and PlayStation VR 2.

What's in store for Hello Games?

It wouldn't be financially savvy for most game developers to update No Man's Sky as frequently as Hello Games has. This isn't a live-service game that consistently brings in revenue from subscribers; rather, true fans will recall that it experienced a redemption of sorts following a lackluster launch.

The plan seems to have worked out well, with solid sales figures year after year. Furthermore, its durability is enhanced by the relatively small size of the team at Hello Games.

Changes made to No Man's Sky will also be used for Hello Games' next game, called Light No Fire.

This game is the studio's first release since 2020's The Last Campfire, and it takes place on a single planet, not across the entire universe.

“Hello Games calls it bringing the profoundness of a role-playing game to the open-world freedom of a survival sandbox,”

Light No Fire does not have a confirmed release date, but some people are speculating that it will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2025 at the earliest.
