This new government department led by Elon Musk is facing trouble due to claims that his business partner may be planning to leave.

A source close to the situation said Doge is prioritizing his campaign for Ohio governor.

After the election, he was reportedly set to make a formal announcement about his candidacy by the end of January 2024.

The move could jeopardize Doge's plan to slash government spending by up to 2 trillion dollars by July 4, 2026, as Mr. Ramaswamy's time would likely be consumed by his gubernatorial campaign.

Some of those around Donald Trump believe that Mr Ramswamy's departure might create a clear path for Mr Musk to proceed unimpeded with his projects.

Little known about funding

Doge has already developed a somewhat dubious reputation, with details about its funding and billionaire leaders avoiding potential conflicts of interest shrouded in mystery.

The Washington Post reports that the department has significantly increased its hiring in recent weeks, with nearly 100 staff members expected to be in place by Monday.

Among them are Steve Davis, the president of the Boring Company, who wielded the hatchet after Musk acquired it, and Emil Michael, a former Uber executive.

Regarding the department's role in the first few weeks after returning to office, there's a specific requirement involving government contracts.

Elon Musk has scaled back his expectations, acknowledging the department might not meet its $2 trillion spending cut target.
