Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Amanda Seyfried & Christina Aguilera Hit Star-Studded Joy Awards As Egyptian Picture ‘Sons Of Risk 3' Tops Public-Voted Prizes

Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman was honored at the fifth annual Joy Awards in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over the weekend, with actor Anthony Hopkins presenting him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and UK director Guy Ritchie were also honored, while Matthew McConaughey received the Personality of the Year Award.

Sunday's star-studded ceremony - which is part of Riyadh Season, a series of high-profile entertainment, cultural, and sporting events - featured performances by Saudi singer Mohammed Abdo, U.S. pop star Christina Aguilera, Thai-born movie composer Hans Zimmer, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Canadian pop icon Michael Bublé, Lebanese singing star Wael Kfoury, and Turkish singer-songwriter Tarkan.

Before the Joy Awards ceremony, Hopkins, who recently lost his home in a fire in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, was honored with a concert on Friday evening called Life Is A Dream, which featured a number of his music compositions performed by an orchestra led by Matthew Freeman of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Some notable guests at the Joy Awards ceremony included actors Forest Whitaker, Kiefer Sutherland, Amanda Seyfried, Martin Lawrence, and Cuba Gooding Jr; Indian actor Hrithik Roshan; along with Turkish actors Burak Özçivit and Tûba Büyüküstün, soccer star Thierry Henry from France, Egyptian actors Ahmed Helmy and Mona Zaki, and fashion designer Zuhair Murad from Lebanon.

Overseen by Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority (GEA), the Joy Awards are chosen by the public and are designed to highlight the achievements of talented individuals from the Gulf region, the broader Arab world, and internationally.

The public nomination period closed in December 2024, after which the top four finalists in each category were selected and then voted on using a dedicated app.
