Sporting made a bid of £72-mil on Bruno Fernandes, and it's been firmly on the table for him.

A former Red Devils player himself, Mata inked a one-year deal with the Wanderers last year, which was among the biggest transfer deals in A-League history.

Despite his team being in the middle of the table, Mata's not been afraid to let rip about life in the land down under when having a chinwag with Fernandes.

I'm still catching up with him to improve certain things he reckons might help me and I'm really stoked to have someone like him who's done some great things in the footy world to have a yarn with me," Fernandes told Optus Sport about his old teammate.

He's as happy as can be here in Australia, no worries. All he's been raving about is the place.

He's a bloke who you can pick up on is as happy as anything in a place, and I reckon at the moment Juan is that sort of fella.

He's been telling me he probably regretted not making the move to Australia earlier in his career.

Still in his prime at United, a move to Australia isn't on his radar at the moment as he focuses on helping his team turn their lagging season around.

Those chats with Mata have often covered what it's like living in Australia from the United captain's viewpoint.

Given their current standing as one of the top clubs in England, it's unlikely he'll be leaving until the latter part of his career.

"After watching those videos of his lifestyle, playing golf, being at the beach, the stadium, all the fans, his conditions at the club, I thought maybe I could play here (in Australia)," Fernandes said.

Gobsmacked at Christmas time I was here fair dinkum caught up in a ripper of a wind and a chill, and he was sending me videos of the sun and him living it up right in front of the beach – it was bloody beautiful.

If he's still there living, it'll be an even better option because he mentioned he's head over heels for the country and its culture.

Fernandes will be back on the pitch in the Premier League on January 27 when they face off against Fulham.
